Repair Options

Leak Detection
Leak Detection is available for all pipe sizes and materials prior to repair or replacement of a leaking supply pipe.

"Spot Repair"
This involves an excavation up to 1m x 1m to repair the section of leaking pipe. This may be a cheaper option, but if the pipe is in poor condition the repair may only offer a short term solution. Dependant upon the pipe material and condition it may be likely future leaks will occur.

Supply Pipe Renewal (Relay)
“Trenchless Technology” using “Impact moles” is used wherever possible to minimise on excavation and we carry these as standard. This means that gardens, lawns, driveways, patios etc are left undisturbed.

Partial Supply Pipe Renewal (Relay)
In some instances situations may dictate a partial relay rather than a spot repair.

All-inclusive service
Service includes leak survey, excavation, repair and reinstatement.

Key Facts

Responsibility for water service pipes
Water companies are responsible for water mains in the ground. Normally they are also responsible for that part of the service pipe lying between the water main and the boundary of the property. This is known as the communication pipe. Most properties have an underground stop tap at the property boundary and the water company is also responsible for keeping these in a serviceable condition.

What are the Property owners' responsibilities?
In most cases the part of the service pipe taking water from the company's stop tap into the house belongs to the householder or property owner. This is known as the supply pipe. It is the householder's responsibility to keep the supply pipe in good condition and to repair any leaks on this pipe.

How do Water Companies approach leaking customer supply pipes?
Customer Leakage policies differ across Water Companies. We recommend you refer to your company's code of practice on leakage to see exactly what they offer. This should be published on their website or you can ask them to mail you a copy. Most companies offer a free phone "leakline number". This can be found on your water bill or in the telephone directory.

If you have a leak on your external pipework and do not make arrangements to repair it, the water company can issue you with a Waste Water Notice under Section 75 of the Water Industry Act 1991. If the leak is not repaired within a specified time, the water company can legally enforce a repair, send in a contractor to undertake the work and charge the householder for all costs.
